Growing Guide

Positioning Plant in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in a sheltered position. Partial shade is ideal, particularly in gardens exposed to strong afternoon sun or drying winds, which can scorch the delicate foliage.
Watering & Mulching Water regularly while the tree is establishing and during extended dry spells, especially when grown in a container. Apply a mulch in spring to help conserve moisture and keep the root zone cool, ensuring it is kept clear of the trunk.
Pruning Japanese maples require very little pruning. Remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches during late autumn or winter, or carry out light shaping in mid-summer if required. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can spoil the tree's naturally elegant form.
