Overview

Achillea millefolium Milly Rock is a compact series of yarrow, specially bred to produce abundant, flat-topped flower clusters on sturdy stems above finely divided, aromatic foliage. This dwarf selection provides a long-lasting display throughout summer while maintaining a tidy, mound-forming habit that is perfect for smaller gardens and containers.

As this is a mixed assortment, flower colours vary across the range, but every variety shares the same compact growth and excellent garden performance. Its manageable size makes it ideal for edging borders, gravel gardens, raised beds and patio pots where larger Achillea varieties would be too vigorous.

Why We Love It

  • Bred specifically for a compact, uniform habit.
  • Long flowering season with excellent repeat performance when deadheaded.
  • Rich in nectar, making it attractive to bees and butterflies.
  • Ideal for smaller gardens, containers and sunny borders.
  • Fine, fern-like foliage adds texture even when plants are not in flower.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in a sunny, open position where it receives at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. This compact series performs particularly well at the front of borders and in gravel-style planting.

Watering

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Achillea is relatively drought tolerant, requiring additional watering only during prolonged dry periods. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm weather.

Soil

Grow in fertile, well-drained soil. For containers, use a quality compost with added grit to improve drainage, helping prevent waterlogging during wet Irish winters.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Milly Rock Achillea is hardy throughout Ireland. Leave the faded stems standing over winter if desired for seasonal interest, then cut the plant back before fresh growth begins in spring.

Routine Care

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooms throughout the season. Divide established clumps every few years if they become congested to maintain vigour and flowering performance.

Perfect For
