Overview

Anthemis 'Tinpenny Sparkle' is a charming herbaceous perennial grown for its masses of creamy-white, daisy-like flowers carried above soft, finely divided grey-green foliage. Flowering from June into July, it creates a bright, airy display that complements both traditional cottage gardens and contemporary planting schemes.

Its naturally bushy, upright habit makes it an excellent choice for sunny borders, gravel gardens and mixed perennial beds. The flowers also make attractive cut blooms, while their nectar-rich centres help support bees and other beneficial pollinating insects throughout the flowering season.

Why We Love It

• Soft grey-green foliage provides attractive texture throughout the season.
• Excellent choice for pollinator-friendly planting.
• Performs well in sunny, free-draining gardens.
• Makes beautiful fresh-cut flowers for indoor arrangements.

Plant Details

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in a sunny, open position where it will receive plenty of direct sunlight. Good air circulation helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering.

Watering

Water regularly while establishing. Once established, the plant is relatively drought tolerant, requiring additional watering only during prolonged dry spells. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm weather.

Soil

Grow in fertile, free-draining soil. It performs particularly well in sandy, chalky or gravelly soils where drainage is excellent, making it a good choice for dry borders.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Fully hardy in most Irish gardens. Good drainage during winter is essential, particularly on heavier soils. Cut back old growth before fresh shoots emerge in spring.

Routine Care

Deadhead spent flowers regularly to prolong flowering. After the main display, lightly trim the plant to encourage neat, fresh growth and maintain its compact habit.

Perfect For

• Sunny perennial borders.
• Cottage and wildlife-friendly gardens.
• Gravel and Mediterranean-style planting.
• Pollinator-friendly planting schemes.
• Fresh-cut flower arrangements.

Good to Know

The silver-grey foliage remains an attractive feature even when the plant is not in flower, and its drought tolerance makes it a reliable choice once established in well-drained soil.
