Plant in a sunny, open position for the best foliage colour and flowering. It thrives in rockeries, gravel gardens, raised beds and alpine troughs where drainage is excellent.
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, plants become drought tolerant and require only occasional watering during extended dry periods. Container-grown specimens may need more frequent watering in warm weather.
Grow in free-draining soil. Sandy, gravelly or stony soils are ideal, and adding horticultural grit to heavier ground will improve drainage and help prevent winter wet.
Fully hardy throughout Ireland. Good drainage is essential during winter to maintain healthy evergreen foliage and prevent crown rot.
Trim lightly after flowering to keep the plant compact and tidy. Remove any damaged foliage as required and divide mature clumps every few years if they become congested.
