About this product

Aspidistra elatior

P17 Pot

Plant Highlights: Tough, glossy evergreen foliage • Excellent for lower-light rooms • Upright, elegant growth • A dependable, long-lived houseplant

Overview

Aspidistra elatior, commonly known as the Cast Iron Plant, is one of the most resilient indoor foliage plants available. Its broad, arching, deep green leaves emerge directly from the base of the plant, creating a graceful, architectural display that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Renowned for its ability to tolerate lower light levels and occasional neglect better than many houseplants, it is an excellent choice for hallways, living rooms and offices. While slow growing, it is exceptionally long-lived and rewards consistent care with handsome evergreen foliage throughout the year.

Growing Guide

Indoor Placement

Position in bright, indirect light or a naturally lower-light room. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. This plant also appreciates being kept away from radiators and cold draughts.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering thoroughly. Reduce watering during winter, taking care not to leave the compost waterlogged.

Humidity

Average household humidity is perfectly suitable, making this an easy plant for most homes.

Feeding

Feed monthly with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Feeding can be reduced or stopped during the winter months.
