Overview

Astilbe 'Fireworks Pink' is a graceful herbaceous perennial that produces elegant, feathery plumes of bright pink flowers held above finely divided green foliage. Flowering through summer, the airy blooms bring height, texture and movement to shaded or moisture-retentive borders while providing a welcome splash of colour.

Its naturally clump-forming habit makes it an excellent companion for hostas, ferns and other shade-loving perennials. The flowers are also suitable for cutting, and the attractive seed heads can be left in place to add interest into autumn.

Growing Guide

Plant in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains well. Astilbe performs best in partial shade, although it can also be grown in full sun if the soil does not dry out during warm weather. Water regularly during dry periods, particularly while establishing and when grown in containers.

Apply a mulch of organic matter in spring to help conserve moisture and improve soil structure.

Wildlife

The flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, making Astilbe a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.

Pruning

Remove spent flower stems once they have faded, or leave the dried plumes in place for additional autumn and winter interest. Cut old foliage back to ground level in late winter or early spring before fresh growth appears.
