Overview
Vitax Buxus Feed 1kg is a specialist fertiliser formulated for the nutritional needs of Buxus, including box hedging and container-grown box plants. It supplies essential plant nutrients and trace elements to support good establishment, dense healthy growth and an improved green leaf colour.
Its NPK 10:7.5:10.2 formulation provides extended nitrogen release, helping make nutrients available as plants grow rather than delivering all the nitrogen at once. Buxus Feed is versatile enough for use during planting and for feeding established plants, with application rates for individual box plants, hedges and containers.
Why We Love It
-
Designed for Buxus: suitable for all Buxus species, whether grown as hedging, individual specimens or in containers.
-
Sustained nutrition: extended nitrogen release supports steady, healthy growth.
-
Greener foliage: specially selected nutrients help improve leaf colour.
-
Flexible application: use when planting new Buxus or as a top dressing for established plants.
-
More than box: it can also be used as a top dressing for other suitable trees, shrubs and conifers.

How to Use
Planting Buxus
Buxus is ideally planted in autumn or spring. Prepare the ground thoroughly before planting.
For plants supplied in 15–20cm containers or as bare-root stock, use 60g of Buxus Feed. Sprinkle part into the bottom of the planting hole and lightly fork it into the soil, then mix the remainder with the soil used to backfill around the plant.
For hedge planting, apply 60–120g per linear metre of planting trench.
For larger container-grown stock over 20cm, apply 60g to the bottom of the planting hole and lightly fork it in, then mix a further 60g with the backfill soil.
Feeding Established Buxus
For established Buxus in containers, apply 1 teaspoonful per 15–20cm of pot diameter, working the fertiliser into the soil surface where possible.
In the spring following planting, apply 60g evenly to the soil beneath the branches of the shrub. Repeat the application at the end of June or beginning of July.
Apply during dry conditions, lightly hoe the fertiliser into the soil and water thoroughly afterwards. Avoid allowing granules to lodge on leaves or stems.

Good to Know
One small gloved handful of Buxus Feed is approximately 30g, making it useful as a rough guide when applying the product. For accurate feeding, particularly with smaller plants and containers, measure the recommended quantity rather than exceeding the stated rate.
For established plants, applying the feed to moist soil and then lightly incorporating and watering it in helps move the nutrients into the root zone.
Safety & Storage
Always wear gloves when gardening and wash hands after using the fertiliser, particularly as the product may irritate cut or broken skin.
Keep the fertiliser dry and store it away from children, pets and foodstuffs. Do not exceed the recommended application rates. Avoid getting fertiliser granules on foliage and stems, and brush any spillages from paths or paving after application. Always read and follow the directions on the product packaging.
