Plant Highlights: Rich burgundy and deep green foliage • Decorative patterned leaves • Thrives in warm, humid indoor spaces • Pet-friendly tropical houseplant
Goeppertia roseopicta 'Misty Red', still widely sold as Calathea roseopicta 'Misty Red', is an elegant tropical foliage plant admired for its richly coloured leaves. The broad foliage combines deep green upper surfaces with burgundy-red tones and intricate markings, creating a striking display throughout the year.

Place in bright, indirect light away from direct sunshine, which can scorch the leaves and reduce the intensity of their colouring. Protect from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
Keep the compost evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water when the surface of the compost begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain away.
Higher humidity helps maintain healthy foliage and vibrant leaf colour. A naturally bright bathroom is an excellent location, or increase humidity around the plant during dry indoor conditions.
Feed monthly with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.
Like other prayer plants, the leaves naturally move in response to changing light levels between day and night. Wipe the foliage gently with a soft, damp cloth to keep the intricate patterns looking their best.
