About this product

Caryopteris × clandonensis 'Grand Blue'

P17 Pot

Plant Highlights: Rich deep blue flowers in late summer • Aromatic grey-green foliage • Compact deciduous shrub • Excellent for bees and other pollinators

Overview

Caryopteris × clandonensis 'Grand Blue', commonly known as Bluebeard, is a compact deciduous shrub that provides welcome colour from late summer into autumn. Clusters of rich blue flowers are carried on the current season's growth above aromatic grey-green foliage, making it an excellent choice for extending the flowering season in sunny gardens.

Its naturally rounded habit makes it ideal for mixed borders, gravel gardens and patio containers. As many summer-flowering plants begin to fade, Grand Blue comes into its own, offering vibrant colour while attracting a wide range of pollinating insects.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in a sunny, sheltered position where it will receive plenty of direct sunlight. Good light encourages the strongest flowering and compact growth.

Watering

Water regularly while establishing. Once established, plants are relatively tolerant of short dry spells, although prolonged drought may reduce flowering.

Soil

Grow in fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged ground, particularly during winter.

Pruning

Prune hard in early spring before new growth begins, cutting back the previous year's stems to encourage vigorous new shoots and abundant flowers.

  • Sunny borders
  • Gravel gardens

  • Patio containers

Wildlife
