Growing Guide

Position

Plant in a warm, sheltered position in full sun. A south- or west-facing site protected from cold winds will encourage the best flowering and help maintain healthy evergreen foliage.

Watering

Water regularly during the first growing season. Once established, Ceanothus is relatively drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells.

Soil

Grow in well-drained soil and avoid sites that remain wet during winter. This shrub performs particularly well on lighter soils with good drainage.

Pruning

Prune lightly immediately after flowering if shaping is required. Avoid cutting back into old wood, as regeneration from mature stems can be poor.

Perfect For

  • Sunny borders
  • Courtyard gardens

The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, making this an excellent shrub for wildlife-friendly planting.
