Its small, glossy green leaves provide year-round interest, while the profusion of nectar-rich blooms creates a striking display that is highly attractive to pollinating insects.

Plant Details

Growing Guide

Plant in a warm, sunny, sheltered position in well-drained soil. Ceanothus performs best where drainage is excellent and benefits from protection from cold, drying winds, particularly in exposed gardens.

Water regularly during the establishment period and during prolonged dry spells, especially when grown in containers. Apply a mulch in spring to help conserve soil moisture, keeping it clear of the main stem. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood; lightly trim after flowering if required to maintain the pyramid shape.

Wildlife

The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, making this an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.

Why We Love It

The trained pyramid form gives this Ceanothus an elegant, architectural appearance even before flowering. When covered in brilliant blue blooms in spring, it becomes a striking feature for patios, entrances and sunny borders.
