Its naturally compact, broadly mounding habit makes it suitable for gardens of all sizes, including contemporary and Japanese-inspired planting schemes.

Growing Guide

Position

Grow in full sun or partial shade. The brightest golden foliage colour develops in a sunny position, while a little afternoon shade can be beneficial in particularly exposed gardens.

Watering

Water regularly while the plant is establishing and continue to water during prolonged dry spells, especially when grown in containers. Avoid allowing the soil to become waterlogged.

Soil

Prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Apply a mulch in spring to help retain moisture, improve soil condition and suppress weeds.

Hardiness and Winter Care

An exceptionally hardy evergreen conifer (RHS H6), well suited to Irish gardens. Once established it tolerates normal winter conditions well, although container-grown plants benefit from ensuring the compost does not remain waterlogged during prolonged wet weather.

Routine Care

Very little pruning is required. Simply remove any damaged, dead or misplaced shoots to maintain its naturally graceful, cascading habit.

Good to Know

The supplied height of approximately 50 cm and the 7.5 litre pot size describe the plant at the time of purchase, not its mature size. 'Sungold' is a slow-growing variety that develops its best golden foliage colour in good light while benefiting from consistently moist, well-drained soil.
