Overview

Chlorophytum comosum 'Ocean', a compact cultivar of the Spider Plant, is grown for its attractive arching leaves with rich green centres and creamy-white margins. Its neat, mounded habit gradually develops into gently cascading foliage, making it an excellent choice for hanging displays, shelves and plant stands.

Supplied in a hanging pot, 'Ocean' is easy to care for and adapts well to a range of indoor environments. Mature plants may produce slender stems bearing small white flowers followed by young plantlets, adding extra interest throughout the year.

Growing Guide

Indoor Placement

Position in bright, indirect light for the best variegation. It will tolerate lower light levels, although growth may be slower and the foliage colouring less pronounced. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.

Watering

Water when the top few centimetres of compost begin to dry. Allow excess water to drain away and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water.

Humidity

Average household humidity is perfectly suitable, although the plant will also appreciate slightly higher humidity in warm rooms.

Feeding

Feed monthly with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when growth slows.
