Overview
The Clematis Garland Series is a mixed selection of compact flowering clematis grown for their colourful blooms and manageable climbing habit. Individual varieties within the series may differ in flower colour and flowering time, but all are well suited to training over obelisks, trellises, fences and other garden supports, bringing vertical interest to even the smallest spaces.
Supplied already trained and ready to plant, these deciduous climbers are ideal for sunny or lightly shaded gardens where their flowers can be enjoyed throughout the growing season. Their compact size also makes them an excellent choice for decorative containers on patios and terraces.
Why We Love It

- Compact growth is ideal for smaller gardens and patio containers.

Growing Guide
Position
Plant in full sun or partial shade with a support such as a trellis, obelisk, pergola or fence. Wherever possible, keep the roots cool by shading the base with surrounding plants or a layer of mulch.
Watering
Water regularly during the first growing season while establishing. Continue to water during prolonged dry spells, particularly when plants are grown in containers.
Soil
Grow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Incorporating organic matter before planting will help retain moisture while maintaining good drainage.
Hardiness and Winter Care
Hardy throughout most of Ireland once established. Good drainage is important during winter, particularly on heavier soils. Apply mulch around the base in spring to help conserve moisture and maintain an even root temperature.
Pruning and Support
Provide sturdy support for climbing stems. Pruning requirements vary between individual Garland Series varieties, so refer to the plant label where possible. In general, remove dead or damaged growth and lightly prune after flowering if required to maintain shape.
Perfect For
- Trellises, arches and obelisks.
- Walls and garden fences.
- Patio containers with climbing supports.
- Cottage and informal garden planting.
- Adding vertical colour to mixed borders.
Good to Know
This is a mixed Garland Series selection, so flower colour, flowering time, mature size and pruning group may vary between individual plants. Check the plant label for the specific variety supplied and its cultivar-specific pruning guidance.
