Cotinus coggygria 'Lilla' (PBR)
3 Litre Pot
Plant Highlights: Compact smoke bush with rich purple foliage • Airy pink-purple flower plumes in summer • Excellent autumn colour • Ideal for smaller gardens and containers
Overview
Cotinus coggygria 'Lilla' (PBR) is a compact, deciduous smoke bush bred to offer all the dramatic foliage and distinctive summer display of larger varieties in a much smaller, garden-friendly form. Rich burgundy-purple leaves emerge in spring, retaining their colour throughout the growing season before turning brilliant shades of scarlet, orange and red in autumn.
In summer, soft, feathery flower plumes rise above the foliage, creating the characteristic "smoke" effect that gives the plant its common name. Its naturally compact habit makes 'Lilla' an excellent choice for mixed borders, feature containers and smaller gardens where space is at a premium.

Growing Guide
Position
Plant in full sun for the richest foliage colour and the best display of summer flower plumes. A sheltered position helps protect young growth from strong winds.
Watering
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells, particularly if grown in a container.
Soil
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil. Good drainage is particularly important during winter.
Pruning
Prune in late winter or early spring if shaping is required. Remove dead, damaged or crossing stems, or cut back more firmly to encourage vigorous new foliage growth, although this may reduce flowering for that season.
