Plant Highlights: Abundant smoky flower plumes • Fresh green foliage with vibrant autumn colour • Naturally compact, bushy habit • Excellent specimen or border shrub • Easy to maintain
Cotinus coggygria 'Young Lady' is a compact Smoke Bush selected for its exceptional flowering and naturally neat habit. Plant in a sunny position to encourage the best flowering and autumn colour. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil and avoid sites that remain waterlogged during winter. Water regularly during the establishment period and only during extended dry spells once established.
Apply a mulch in spring to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Minimal pruning is required; remove dead or damaged stems in late winter or lightly shape the plant if needed to maintain its compact habit.
Unlike many larger Smoke Bush varieties, 'Young Lady' stays naturally compact while producing an impressive display of smoky flower plumes. Its combination of summer flowers and outstanding autumn foliage makes it a valuable shrub for gardens where space is limited.
Good to Know: The 3 litre pot and 40–50 cm height refer to the plant as supplied and not its mature size. Flowering develops on mature growth, so avoid hard annual pruning if you wish to enjoy the characteristic smoky summer display.
