Overview

Crassula 'Hottentot' is an unusual trailing succulent grown for its long, cascading stems densely covered with tightly stacked, fleshy leaves. As the stems mature, they spill gracefully over the sides of hanging pots, creating a striking architectural display that suits modern interiors.

The compact, blue-green to grey-green leaves may develop attractive pink or reddish edging in very bright conditions, adding extra seasonal interest. Its naturally trailing habit makes this variety an excellent choice for hanging baskets, high shelves and plant stands where its unique form can be fully appreciated.

Plant Details

Indoor Placement

Place in a bright room with plenty of natural light. A position near an east-, south- or west-facing window is ideal, although harsh midday summer sun through glass is best avoided until the plant has acclimatised. Good light encourages compact growth and helps maintain the attractive leaf colouring.

Growing Guide

Allow the compost to dry thoroughly between waterings, then water deeply and let excess moisture drain away. During winter, reduce watering as growth slows. Always use a free-draining cactus or succulent compost and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water.

Feed occasionally during spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser formulated for succulents. If stems become too long, they can be lightly trimmed to encourage branching, and healthy cuttings root readily to produce new plants.
