Crassula ovata 'Hobbit'

P12 Pot

Plant Highlights: Distinctive tubular succulent leaves • Compact, sculptural growth • Easy-care houseplant • Excellent for bright indoor spaces

Overview

Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' is a distinctive cultivar of the Jade Plant, prized for its unusual tubular leaves with rolled edges and cup-shaped tips. The glossy green foliage creates a naturally sculptural appearance, making this compact succulent a striking feature on windowsills, desks and shelves.

Slow growing and easy to care for, 'Hobbit' stores water in its fleshy leaves, making it well suited to busy households and anyone looking for a low-maintenance indoor plant. Given plenty of bright light, it develops a sturdy, branching habit that becomes increasingly characterful with age.

Growing Guide

Indoor Placement

Place in a bright position with plenty of indirect light. It will also tolerate some morning or late afternoon sun, which helps maintain compact growth. Avoid darker locations where growth may become stretched.

Watering

Allow the compost to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess water drain away completely. Reduce watering during the winter months when growth naturally slows.

Humidity

Average household humidity is ideal. This succulent does not require additional humidity and performs well in centrally heated homes.

Feeding

Feed once a month during spring and summer with a fertiliser formulated for cacti and succulents. Do not feed during winter.

Perfect For

  • Sunny windowsills
  • Living rooms
  • Home offices
  • Contemporary interiors
  • Beginner houseplant collections

Why We Love It

  • The unusual tubular foliage gives it a unique, bonsai-like appearance.
  • Stores water in its leaves, making it forgiving if you occasionally miss a watering.
  • Compact growth suits smaller spaces and decorative pots.
  • An attractive, long-lived houseplant that becomes more characterful over time.

Good to Know

This plant benefits from being slightly pot-bound and dislikes sitting in wet compost. Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage even growth towards the light.
