Plant Highlights: Elegant pure white flower spikes • Compact, sturdy growth • Long summer display • Excellent for borders and cut flowers • Attractive to pollinators

Overview

Delphinium 'Magic Fountains Pure White' is a compact selection from the popular Magic Fountains series, producing elegant spires densely packed with pristine white flowers. Offering all the classic beauty of traditional delphiniums in a shorter, sturdier plant, it is ideal for adding vertical interest to borders without overwhelming neighbouring plants.

Flowering from early to midsummer, this refined perennial brings brightness and structure to cottage gardens, mixed borders and large patio containers. Its strong stems are less prone to flopping than taller delphinium varieties, while the long-lasting blooms are excellent for cutting and arranging indoors.

Why We Love It

• Elegant pure white flower spikes brighten summer borders.
• Compact habit is perfect for smaller gardens and containers.
• Strong stems require less staking than taller varieties.
• Outstanding cut flowers with excellent vase life.
• Attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in full sun in a sheltered position for the strongest flowering and best stem quality. Although more compact than traditional delphiniums, protection from strong winds will help preserve the flower spikes.

Watering

Water regularly during the first growing season and keep the soil consistently moist during active growth and flowering. Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely during prolonged warm weather.

Soil

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter before planting.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Fully hardy throughout Ireland. The foliage dies back naturally in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Apply a mulch around the crown each spring to help retain moisture and improve soil fertility.

Routine Care

Deadhead spent flower spikes promptly to encourage a second flush of blooms later in the season. Cut flowering stems back after blooming and divide established clumps every few years in spring to maintain vigour.

Perfect For

• Cottage gardens.
• Mixed perennial borders.
• Cutting gardens.
• Pollinator-friendly planting.
• Large patio containers.
• Middle of sunny borders.

Good to Know

The Magic Fountains series has been bred to deliver the impressive flower spikes of classic delphiniums on compact, sturdy plants that are better suited to smaller gardens and generally require less staking than taller cultivars.
