Overview
Dianthus 'Pillow Red' is a compact perennial pink that forms a dense cushion of evergreen blue-green foliage, topped with vibrant red, lightly scented flowers from late spring into summer. Its neat habit and colourful blooms make it an excellent choice for adding reliable colour to the front of borders and containers.
This sun-loving perennial thrives in well-drained soils and is particularly effective in gravel gardens, alpine beds and along paths, where its fragrant flowers can be enjoyed up close. Its evergreen foliage also provides year-round structure when not in flower.

Growing Guide
Plant in a sunny position with free-draining soil. Dianthus performs best where it receives plenty of direct sunlight and dislikes prolonged winter wet. It is particularly well suited to raised beds, gravel gardens and containers with excellent drainage.
Water regularly while establishing, then only during extended dry spells. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser to encourage healthy growth and prolific flowering.
Wildlife
The nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, making this an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
Pruning
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage further blooming. After the main flush of flowers, lightly trim the plant to maintain its compact shape and encourage fresh evergreen growth.
