Push the four tines into the soil using controlled pressure, then draw the handle back to lift and turn the soil. Work methodically across the area to loosen compacted ground and improve the soil structure before planting.
The smaller border-fork design is particularly useful for working between established plants, where the extra control can help you cultivate the soil without the bulk of a full-size digging fork.
Take care around bulbs, shallow-rooted plants and established root systems.
Use the fork to break up clods and loosen compacted areas before adding compost, soil improvers or other suitable organic matter. It can also be used to work amendments into garden soil where appropriate.

Gardeners wanting a smaller alternative to a full-size digging fork
The Elements Border Fork is deliberately smaller than a standard digging fork, making it easier to manoeuvre in confined planted areas.
Its carbon steel head is protected by a hammer-finish powder coating that improves resistance to rust, scratches, humidity and alkalis in the soil.
The tool is manufactured to easily exceed the BS3388 load test and is backed by a 10-year Spear & Jackson guarantee.
Remove soil and debris from the fork after use and allow it to dry before storage.
Store in a dry, sheltered location to help preserve the carbon steel head and ash wood shaft. Periodically inspect the tines, head-to-shaft connection and handle for signs of wear or damage.
