Drive the tines into the ground using controlled foot pressure, then draw the handle backwards to loosen and lift the soil.
Work systematically across the area, turning the soil as required and breaking up larger clods before planting or further cultivation.
Use the fork to loosen compacted garden soil and prepare beds before sowing or planting. The four tines can also help work through ground while causing less slicing of the soil than a solid spade blade.
The digging fork is useful for working garden compost, well-rotted organic matter and suitable soil improvers into beds and vegetable plots. Spread the material as required, then use the fork to incorporate it through the upper soil layers.
