Grow in full sun or partial shade. A bright position helps maintain the strongest variegation, although the plant also performs well in light shade.
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. It is adaptable to a range of soil types provided they do not remain waterlogged.
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a healthy root system. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells, with container-grown plants requiring more frequent attention.
Trim lightly in late spring or summer to maintain a neat shape or encourage denser growth. Remove any plain green shoots if they appear to preserve the variegated foliage.
