Fill the feeder with a suitable wild bird seed mix or sunflower seeds. Close it securely before hanging.
Hang the feeder securely from a bird-feeding station, garden hook or suitable tree branch. A position with good visibility gives birds a clearer view of their surroundings while also making the feeder convenient for you to refill and clean.
Check the feeder regularly and remove old, damp or spoiled seed. Clean it periodically and allow it to dry thoroughly before adding fresh food.
Good feeder hygiene is especially important where several birds regularly use the same feeding point.

Keeping a regular supply of fresh food available can encourage birds to return to your feeding area. Providing clean drinking and bathing water nearby is also a useful addition to a wildlife-friendly garden.
Remove stale or contaminated food promptly and clean the feeder regularly. Allow it to dry fully before refilling with fresh seed.
Periodically inspect the feeder and hanging point for damage or wear. Clean and dry thoroughly before storing for an extended period.
