About this product

Forsythia × intermedia 'Minigold'

3 Litre Container – Approx. 30–40cm Tall

Plant Highlights: Bright golden-yellow spring flowers • Compact, bushy habit • Flowers before the leaves emerge • Excellent for borders and smaller gardens

Overview

Forsythia × intermedia 'Minigold' is a compact deciduous shrub that announces the arrival of spring with masses of vivid golden-yellow flowers carried along its bare stems. Flowering before the fresh green foliage appears, it provides one of the earliest and most cheerful displays in the garden.

Supplied in a 3-litre container at approximately 30–40cm tall, 'Minigold' is well suited to borders, foundation planting and smaller gardens where its naturally compact habit requires less space than larger forsythia varieties. It also combines well with spring bulbs and early-flowering shrubs for a colourful seasonal display.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in full sun for the heaviest flowering, although it will also grow well in partial shade. A sheltered or open garden position is suitable provided the soil drains freely.

Soil

Thrives in fertile, well-drained garden soil and adapts to a wide range of soil types once established. Avoid sites that remain persistently waterlogged.

Watering

Keep well watered during the first growing season while the roots establish. Mature plants are generally low maintenance but benefit from watering during extended dry periods.

Pruning

Prune immediately after flowering by removing a proportion of the oldest stems at the base and lightly shaping the shrub if required. As flowers are produced on stems formed the previous year, avoiding winter pruning will help preserve the following spring's display.

Perfect For

  • Mixed shrub borders
  • Cottage-style gardens
  • Spring colour
  • Smaller gardens
  • Informal hedging
