Plant Highlights: Brilliant golden-yellow spring flowers • Compact, bushy habit • Flowers before the leaves emerge • Established specimen for instant impact

Overview

Forsythia × intermedia 'Minigold' is a compact deciduous shrub that brings the garden to life in early spring with masses of vibrant golden-yellow flowers carried along bare stems. Flowering before the fresh green foliage appears, it creates one of the season's earliest and most uplifting displays.

Supplied in a 7.5-litre container at approximately 60–80cm tall, this well-established specimen provides immediate presence in borders and foundation planting. Its naturally compact habit makes it an excellent choice for smaller gardens while still delivering a spectacular spring show.

Growing Guide

Position

Grow in full sun for the most abundant flowering, although it will also perform well in partial shade. Suitable for both sheltered and open garden positions where the soil drains freely.

Soil

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, it adapts well to a range of garden soils but performs best where drainage is good.

Watering

Water regularly during the first growing season to encourage a strong root system. Established plants require little additional watering except during extended dry periods.

Pruning

Prune immediately after flowering by removing some of the oldest stems at the base and lightly shaping if required. As flowers develop on the previous year's growth, pruning later in the season may reduce flowering the following spring.

Perfect For

  • Mixed shrub borders
  • Cottage-style gardens
