Overview

Fuchsia 'Genii' is a distinctive hardy fuchsia grown as much for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage as for its elegant flowers. From early summer until the first frosts, slender pendant blooms with rich cerise-red sepals and purple petals hang gracefully among the luminous leaves, creating a striking contrast throughout the season. Its naturally bushy habit makes it an excellent choice for mixed borders, cottage gardens and large patio containers. The bright foliage also helps illuminate darker planting schemes, making 'Genii' an attractive feature even before flowering begins.

Why We Love It

With its luminous golden-yellow leaves and contrasting cerise-red and reddish-purple blooms, this hardy shrub brings vibrant colour and graceful form to the garden from early summer right through to the first frosts.

Growing Guide

Position Full sun or partial shade in a sheltered position.
Soil Moist, fertile, well-drained soil. A spring mulch helps retain soil moisture and protects the roots.
Watering Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry spells, particularly in containers.
Pruning Prune in early spring once new growth begins, removing any winter-damaged stems and cutting back to healthy buds. Pinching out young shoots during the growing season encourages a bushier, more floriferous plant.
Wildlife Value The nectar-rich flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, providing a valuable food source over a long flowering season.
