Plant Highlights: Large cream-edged evergreen leaves • Vigorous climbing or ground-cover plant • Year-round structure and colour • Excellent for walls, fences and shady areas • Mature flowers support pollinating insects

Overview

Hedera colchica 'Dentata Variegata', commonly known as Variegated Persian Ivy, is a vigorous evergreen climber prized for its large, leathery leaves boldly edged in creamy white. The colourful foliage provides year-round interest and brightens shaded walls, fences and garden corners where many other climbers struggle.

Supplied at approximately 65cm tall, this self-clinging climber can be trained over walls, trellises and fences or allowed to spread as dense evergreen ground cover. Its larger leaves give it a bold, architectural appearance that contrasts beautifully with finer-textured shrubs and climbers.

Growing Guide

Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, Persian Ivy is adaptable and tolerant of a range of garden conditions, although it performs best where the soil does not remain waterlogged.

Guide young shoots onto supports until they begin to attach naturally. Trim as needed throughout the growing season to control size and maintain a neat shape. Established plants respond well to pruning.

Why We Love It

The bold variegated foliage provides dependable colour throughout the year, making 'Dentata Variegata' an excellent choice for adding light and texture to vertical spaces. Its versatility as both a climber and ground cover makes it useful in many different garden settings.

Wildlife

When mature enough to flower, the late-season blooms provide a valuable nectar source for bees and other pollinating insects, while the dense evergreen foliage offers shelter for birds and other garden wildlife.
