Overview

Helleborus × ericsmithii ViV® 'Viviana' is an elegant evergreen hellebore from the premium ViV® collection, selected for its abundant flowering, vigorous growth and refined garden performance. Large outward-facing flowers open creamy white with soft green centres before gradually developing delicate pink flushes as they mature, bringing welcome colour to the garden from winter into early spring.

Its handsome evergreen foliage forms a neat, long-lived clump that provides year-round structure, making 'Viviana' an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders and decorative patio containers. Flowering when few other perennials are in bloom, it also provides an early source of pollen for bees during mild winter weather.

  • Elegant winter flowers mature from creamy white to soft pink.
  • Evergreen foliage provides attractive structure throughout the year.
  • Long flowering season brightens shaded gardens.
  • Excellent for woodland planting and patio containers.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in partial shade or dappled shade, where it is protected from hot afternoon sun. It performs particularly well beneath deciduous trees and shrubs or in sheltered woodland-style planting.

Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist during the first growing season while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells, especially in spring and summer or when grown in containers.

Soil

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid prolonged winter waterlogging, as hellebores perform best in consistently moist but freely draining conditions.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Fully hardy throughout Ireland. Remove older or damaged leaves in late winter before flowering to improve the display and encourage healthy new growth. Apply an annual mulch of compost or leaf mould around the crown to conserve moisture and improve soil structure.

Routine Care

Feed with a balanced fertiliser after flowering in spring. Established hellebores prefer not to be disturbed and will gradually develop into larger, more floriferous clumps over time.

Perfect For

  • Woodland gardens.
  • Shaded borders.
  • Underplanting deciduous trees.
  • Courtyard and patio containers.
  • Winter and early spring garden displays.
