Hoya linearis

P12 Pot – Approx. 35cm Trailing

Plant Highlights: Cascading stems with soft, narrow foliage • Unusual trailing wax plant • Fragrant white flowers on mature plants • Ideal for hanging pots and high shelves

Overview

Hoya linearis is an elegant trailing houseplant with long, cascading stems covered in slender, softly textured green leaves. Unlike the thicker, waxy foliage of many hoyas, its fine, slightly fuzzy leaves create a graceful waterfall effect, making it a standout choice for hanging planters and elevated shelves.

With the right conditions and as the plant matures, Hoya linearis can produce clusters of fragrant white, star-shaped flowers in late summer. Like other hoyas, it prefers to settle into its pot and often flowers more reliably when left undisturbed.

Indoor Placement

  • Living rooms
  • Home offices
  • Conservatories with filtered light

Avoid placing it in strong midday sun or close to radiators and cold draughts.

Growing Guide

Watering

Allow the top layer of compost to dry slightly before watering, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Reduce watering during the winter months while maintaining light moisture.

Humidity

Hoya linearis appreciates moderate to higher humidity, making it well suited to naturally humid rooms with good natural light.

Feeding

Feed monthly with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer.

Maintenance

Avoid repotting more often than necessary, as hoyas generally flower best once well established. Trim stems only to control size, and avoid removing old flower spurs, as these can produce flowers again in future seasons.

Why We Love It

  • Cascading stems create a soft, natural display.
  • Distinctive narrow foliage sets it apart from other hoyas.
  • Fragrant flowers reward patient growers.
  • A beautiful choice for hanging baskets and shelves.

Good to Know

As a naturally trailing species, Hoya linearis looks best when allowed to cascade freely rather than being trained onto a support.
