About this product

Hoya linearis

Hoya linearis

Supplied in a 12cm pot with an approximate trailing length of 35cm

Plant Highlights: Soft cascading foliage • Elegant trailing wax plant • Fragrant white flowers on mature plants • Ideal for hanging displays • Long-lived and easy to care for

Overview

Hoya linearis is a distinctive trailing houseplant with long, cascading stems covered in slender, softly textured green leaves. Unlike many other hoyas with thick, succulent foliage, this species produces fine, slightly fuzzy leaves that create a graceful waterfall effect, making it an exceptional choice for hanging baskets, plant hangers and elevated shelves.

With bright, indirect light and a little patience, mature plants produce clusters of delicately scented, white star-shaped flowers from late summer onwards. Like many hoyas, it flowers most reliably when allowed to become well established and left undisturbed in its pot, rewarding patient growers with fragrant blooms year after year.

Why We Love It

  • Elegant cascading stems create a soft, natural display.

  • Fine, velvety foliage gives it a distinctive appearance among hoyas.

  • Fragrant white flowers reward patient growers.

  • Perfect for hanging baskets, plant hangers and high shelves.

  • Long-lived and easy to maintain once established.

Growing Guide

Light

Place in bright, indirect light where it receives plenty of natural daylight but is protected from harsh midday sun. A bright living room, conservatory with filtered light or home office is ideal.

Watering

Allow the top layer of compost to dry slightly before watering thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain away. Reduce watering during winter while ensuring the compost does not remain constantly wet.

Compost

Grow in a free-draining houseplant compost using a pot with good drainage. Avoid frequent repotting, as slightly root-bound plants often flower more reliably.

Humidity and Temperature

Moderate to high humidity encourages healthy growth and flowering. Keep the plant in warm indoor conditions, away from cold draughts and direct heat sources.

Feeding

Feed monthly with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter as growth slows.

Routine Care

Allow the stems to trail naturally for the best display. Trim only if necessary to control size, and avoid removing old flower spurs, as these often produce flowers again in future seasons.

Perfect For

  • Hanging baskets and plant hangers.

  • High shelves and bookcases.

  • Bright living rooms.

  • Home offices.

  • Conservatories with filtered light.

Good to Know

Hoya linearis naturally trails rather than climbs, so it looks best when allowed to cascade freely. It is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, although chewing the foliage may occasionally cause mild digestive upset, so it is still best kept out of reach of curious pets.
