About this product

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Astra Pink'

4 Litre Pot

Plant Highlights: Double pink lacecap-style flowers • Long-lasting summer display • Compact, bushy habit • Ideal for borders and patio containers

Overview

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Astra Pink' is a compact deciduous shrub grown for its elegant double pink flower heads, which bring colour and texture to the garden from summer into early autumn. The layered florets create an eye-catching display against fresh green foliage, making this variety a beautiful feature in borders or decorative containers.

Supplied in a 4-litre pot, it is well suited to gardens of all sizes and performs particularly well in sheltered locations where the flowers can be enjoyed throughout the season. The blooms are also excellent for cutting and can be dried for long-lasting indoor arrangements.

Growing Guide

Position

Grow in partial shade or in a position with morning sun and afternoon shade. In Ireland, it will also perform well in full sun provided the soil remains consistently moist.

Soil

Plant in fertile, humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil with good drainage. Mulching each spring helps retain moisture and improves soil structure.

Watering

Water regularly during the first growing season and during extended dry spells. Hydrangeas grown in containers will need more frequent watering than those planted in the ground.

Pruning

Remove faded flower heads in late winter or early spring, cutting back to the first strong pair of buds below the spent bloom. Remove any dead or weak stems to encourage healthy new growth.
