About this product

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Sirius Pink'

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Sirius Pink'

4L Pot

Plant Highlights: Elegant lacecap flower heads • Rich pink summer blooms • Compact, bushy growth • Excellent for borders and patio containers • Long-lasting seasonal colour

Overview

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Sirius Pink' is a compact deciduous lacecap hydrangea grown for its elegant flattened flower heads. Showy pink sterile florets surround a central cluster of fertile flowers, creating a delicate yet eye-catching display from summer into early autumn.

Its naturally bushy habit makes it easy to incorporate into mixed borders, woodland-style planting and patio containers, where it combines beautifully with ferns, hostas and other shade-tolerant perennials. The long-lasting blooms can be left in place after flowering to provide additional structure and seasonal interest into autumn and winter.

Why We Love It

  • Elegant lacecap flowers offer a lighter, more natural look than mophead varieties.
  • Compact habit is ideal for smaller gardens and containers.
  • Long flowering season provides dependable summer colour.
  • Combines beautifully with shade-loving perennials and woodland planting.
  • Flower heads remain attractive well after flowering, extending seasonal interest.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in partial shade for the best balance of flowering and foliage quality, although it will also grow in full sun where the soil remains consistently moist. Choose a sheltered position protected from drying winds.

Watering

Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry periods, particularly for container-grown plants. Hydrangeas perform best in evenly moist soil and should not be allowed to dry out completely during summer.

Soil

Grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Apply a mulch in spring to help conserve moisture and improve soil structure.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Fully hardy in Irish gardens (RHS H5). Leave the faded flower heads in place over winter to help protect developing buds, removing them in spring once the risk of severe frost has passed.

Routine Care

Remove only the faded flower heads in spring, cutting back to the first strong pair of healthy buds below each bloom. At the same time, remove any dead or weak stems. As this hydrangea flowers on the previous season's growth, avoid hard pruning.

Perfect For

  • Mixed shrub borders.
  • Woodland-style gardens.
  • Shaded patios and courtyards.
  • Large patio containers.
  • Cottage garden planting schemes.

Good to Know

The intensity of the flower colour can vary with soil pH. Flowers generally remain a richer pink in neutral to alkaline soils, while more acidic conditions may produce softer blue or violet tones.
