Hydrangea 'lacecap'

Confirmed format: 5 Litre Pot (P23)

Plant Highlights: Elegant, flattened lacecap flower heads • Long flowering season from summer to early autumn • Attractive to bees and other pollinating insects • Beautiful autumn foliage colour • Excellent choice for borders, woodland gardens and containers

Overview

Hydrangea 'lacecap' is a deciduous flowering shrub valued for its elegant, flattened flower heads, where a ring of larger, showy florets surrounds a central cluster of tiny fertile flowers. As no specific cultivar has been supplied, this description covers the characteristics common to lacecap hydrangeas. Flowering from summer into early autumn, lacecap hydrangeas bring a softer, more natural appearance to borders than rounded mophead types. Their graceful blooms combine beautifully with ferns, hostas and other shade-loving perennials, making them a favourite for woodland-style and cottage gardens.

Why We Love It

The delicate structure of lacecap flowers brings texture and movement to the garden, while the central fertile flowers provide a valuable source of nectar for pollinating insects throughout the flowering season. Their long flowering season and dependable performance make them a rewarding addition to a wide range of planting styles.

Watering Water regularly during dry periods, particularly while establishing and when grown in containers.
Pruning & Care Leave faded flower heads in place over winter to help protect developing buds, then remove them in spring by cutting back to a healthy pair of buds.
