About this product

Hydrangea paniculata 'Magical Himalaya' – supplied in a C3 (3-litre) container

Plant Highlights: Large conical white flower panicles • Strong upright stems • Long-lasting flowers that mature through the season • Excellent for borders and containers

Overview

Hydrangea paniculata 'Magical Himalaya' is a deciduous shrub grown for its impressive, cone-shaped flower heads that open in creamy white and provide a long-lasting display from mid to late summer. Held on sturdy upright stems, the blooms remain attractive well into autumn, extending the season of interest in the garden.

Its neat, bushy habit makes it an excellent choice for mixed shrub borders, cottage gardens and large patio containers. The clean white flowers combine beautifully with both pastel and vibrant planting schemes and are also suitable for fresh or dried floral arrangements.

Growing Guide

Plant in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Hydrangea paniculata performs well in full sun or partial shade, provided the soil does not dry out for prolonged periods during the growing season.

Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry spells. Apply a mulch of organic matter each spring to help retain moisture and improve soil structure.

Wildlife

The flower heads can attract pollinating insects when the fertile florets are open, while the dense branching provides useful shelter for garden wildlife.

Pruning

Unlike mophead hydrangeas, Hydrangea paniculata flowers on new season's growth. Prune in late winter or early spring by shortening the previous year's shoots to a healthy pair of buds to encourage vigorous growth and large flower panicles.
