About this product

Hydrangea paniculata 'Pinky Winky' – supplied in a P26 container

Plant Highlights: Large two-tone flower panicles • Strong upright stems • Long-lasting summer and autumn display • Excellent specimen shrub for borders and containers

Overview

Hydrangea paniculata 'Pinky Winky' is a vigorous deciduous shrub celebrated for its striking, cone-shaped flower panicles that change colour as the season progresses. The blooms open creamy white in summer, with the older florets gradually developing rich pink tones from the base upwards, creating an eye-catching two-tone effect that lasts well into autumn.

Carried on sturdy, upright stems, the large flower heads remain held above the foliage without flopping, making this an excellent choice for adding height and structure to mixed borders. The blooms are also highly valued for fresh and dried flower arrangements.

Growing Guide

Plant in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Hydrangea paniculata 'Pinky Winky' performs well in full sun or partial shade, provided the soil remains evenly moist during dry periods.

Water regularly while establishing and mulch annually with organic matter to help conserve moisture and improve soil structure. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering.

Wildlife

The flower heads can attract pollinating insects when the fertile florets are open, while the shrub provides useful shelter for garden wildlife.

Pruning

This variety flowers on the current season's growth. Prune in late winter or early spring by shortening the previous year's stems to a healthy pair of buds. This encourages strong new shoots and large flower panicles.
