Growing Guide

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, this holly is adaptable to a range of garden conditions, although it performs best where the soil does not become waterlogged during winter.

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Apply a spring mulch of organic matter to help retain moisture and improve soil structure.

Wildlife

The spring flowers provide nectar for pollinating insects, while the berries can provide a valuable food source for birds later in the season. The dense evergreen growth also offers excellent shelter for garden wildlife.

Pruning

Prune in late winter or early spring, or lightly trim in summer to maintain the desired size and shape. It responds well to clipping and can be grown as an attractive evergreen hedge.
