Laurus nobilis (Bay Laurel) – 13cm Pot
Plant Highlights: Aromatic evergreen foliage • Fresh bay leaves for cooking • Excellent for containers • Slow-growing and easy to shape • Year-round structure
Overview
Laurus nobilis, commonly known as Bay Laurel, is a versatile evergreen shrub grown for its fragrant leaves, which can be picked fresh for use in the kitchen. Supplied in a 13cm nursery pot at approximately 25cm tall, this young plant is ideal for growing in a container on a patio or planting into a sunny, sheltered border.
Its leathery, deep green leaves remain on the plant throughout the year, providing lasting structure and a ready supply of aromatic foliage for cooking. Naturally slow growing and highly responsive to pruning, Bay Laurel is easy to maintain as a compact patio plant or clip into formal shapes as it matures. Given space and left unpruned, it will gradually develop into a handsome evergreen shrub or small tree over many years.

Growing Guide
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Water regularly while the plant is establishing, allowing the surface of the compost or soil to dry slightly between waterings. Container-grown plants will need more frequent watering during warm, dry weather but should not be left sitting in water.
Apply a balanced feed during spring and summer to encourage healthy growth. Light trimming after the main flush of growth will help maintain a neat shape and encourage dense foliage. Young container-grown plants benefit from protection during prolonged hard frosts, particularly in exposed gardens.
Why We Love It
Bay Laurel is one of the most rewarding evergreen plants to grow, combining ornamental value with practical use. Its aromatic leaves can be harvested fresh throughout the year for cooking once the plant is well established, while its naturally tidy habit makes it equally at home in decorative containers, formal gardens and kitchen gardens.
