About this product

Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead' – English Lavender (1 Litre Pot)

Plant Highlights: Fragrant violet-purple flower spikes • Aromatic evergreen foliage • Compact, bushy habit • Excellent for bees and butterflies • Ideal for borders, edging and containers

Overview

Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead' is one of the best-loved English lavenders, prized for its compact habit, richly scented foliage and abundant violet-purple flower spikes. Flowering throughout summer, it brings colour, fragrance and movement to sunny borders while attracting a wide range of pollinating insects.

Its naturally tidy growth makes it ideal for edging paths, creating low informal hedges or planting in patio containers. The fragrant flowers are also excellent for cutting and drying, allowing their scent to be enjoyed indoors long after the flowering season.

Growing Guide

Plant in a sunny, open position with free-draining soil. Lavender thrives in drier conditions and is less suited to heavy or waterlogged soils, particularly during winter.

Water regularly while establishing, then only during prolonged dry periods. Avoid excessive feeding, as overly rich soils can encourage soft growth at the expense of flowering.

Wildlife

The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, making 'Munstead' an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.

Pruning

Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a compact, rounded shape. Avoid cutting back into old woody stems, as these may not regenerate well.

Why We Love It

'Munstead' has earned its reputation as a dependable garden favourite thanks to its fragrant flowers, compact growth and long flowering season. It is equally at home in traditional cottage gardens, contemporary planting schemes and gravel gardens.
