Plant Highlights: Fragrant purple flowers • Evergreen aromatic foliage • Excellent for bees and butterflies • Ideal for borders, edging and containers
Lavandula angustifolia, commonly known as English Lavender, is a much-loved evergreen shrub valued for its fragrant foliage and elegant spikes of purple flowers during summer. Its compact, bushy habit makes it equally at home lining paths, edging borders, filling patio containers or planted in groups to create a colourful, scented display.
The aromatic silver-green foliage provides year-round structure, while the nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, making lavender a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.

Plant in a sunny, open position where it receives at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. Good air circulation and well-drained soil are essential for healthy growth.
Water regularly until established. Once settled, Lavandula angustifolia is relatively drought tolerant and generally only requires watering during prolonged dry periods.
Lavender thrives in free-draining soil and dislikes prolonged winter wet. If planting in heavier soils, improve drainage with grit or consider growing in raised beds or containers.
Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a neat, rounded shape. Avoid cutting into old, woody stems, as these may not produce new growth.
The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects throughout the flowering season.
