Growing Guide

Plant in a sunny, open position with free-draining soil. English lavender performs best in soils that do not remain wet during winter, making good drainage particularly important in Irish gardens.

Water regularly during the first growing season while the plant establishes. Once established, lavender requires little additional watering except during prolonged dry spells. Avoid overfeeding, as this can encourage lush growth at the expense of flowers.

Wildlife

The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects throughout the flowering season.

Pruning

Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a compact, bushy shape and prevent the plant from becoming woody. Avoid cutting into old wood that has no leafy growth, as this may not regenerate.
