Leucothoe ‘Curly Red’
Leucothoe ‘Curly Red’ (Leucothoe axillaris) is an evergreen shrub admired for its glossy, deeply curled foliage that emerges bright red in spring before maturing to rich green. Compact yet vigorous, it provides year-round texture and interest, with its colorful leaves creating a striking contrast in shaded garden areas. This low-maintenance plant adds depth and drama to woodland borders or shaded beds.
Care Tips: Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil in partial to full shade. Water regularly during dry periods and mulch to retain moisture. Minimal pruning is required – simply remove any damaged or overcrowded stems to maintain shape and airflow.
Best Location: Perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, under trees, or in containers on patios and terraces where its vibrant foliage can be admired close-up.
