Plant Highlights: Rare crested growth form • Sculptural blue-green stems • Excellent for bright indoor spaces • Low-maintenance collector's cactus
Overview
Myrtillocactus geometrizans f. cristata, often known as the Crested Blue Candle Cactus, is an unusual collector's cactus prized for its distinctive fan-shaped, undulating growth. Unlike the typical upright species, this crested form develops intricate, coral-like ridges in attractive blue-green tones, making every plant naturally unique.
Its sculptural appearance makes it a striking feature on a sunny windowsill, in a conservatory or as part of a contemporary houseplant collection. Slow-growing and long-lived, it rewards bright conditions with healthy, compact growth.

Indoor Placement
Place in the brightest position available, ideally where it receives several hours of direct sunshine each day. South- or west-facing windows are ideal. It also performs well in conservatories and other bright indoor spaces with good ventilation.
Avoid humid locations and keep away from prolonged cold or draughts.
Growing Guide
Water thoroughly only when the compost has dried out completely, reducing watering significantly during the darker winter months. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems.
Grow in a free-draining cactus compost and ensure the pot has adequate drainage. Feed occasionally during spring and summer with a cactus fertiliser to support healthy growth.
Good to Know
The fascinating crested shape is a naturally occurring growth mutation, meaning every plant develops its own distinctive form. As the plant matures, its sculptural appearance becomes increasingly intricate, making it highly sought after by cactus enthusiasts and collectors.
