Nandina domestica 'Magical Sunrise' (PBR) – supplied in a 3-litre pot
Plant Highlights: Brilliant changing foliage throughout the year • Compact evergreen habit • Ideal for containers and small gardens • Year-round colour with minimal maintenance
Nandina domestica 'Magical Sunrise' (PBR) is a compact heavenly bamboo grown primarily for its exceptional foliage display. Fresh new growth emerges in vibrant shades of orange, red and gold before maturing to green, with the leaves developing rich red and fiery tones again as temperatures cool, providing interest across the seasons.
Its naturally tidy, upright habit makes it an excellent choice for borders, patio containers and contemporary planting schemes where dependable foliage colour is more important than flowers. As a compact selection, it is particularly well suited to smaller gardens and urban spaces.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. The richest foliage colours generally develop in brighter positions, while some shelter from cold, drying winds helps protect new growth.
Water regularly while establishing, particularly during dry spells or when grown in containers. Once established, this is a reliable, low-maintenance shrub requiring little routine care.
Little pruning is required. Remove any dead, damaged or congested stems in late winter or early spring to maintain an open, healthy framework. Avoid frequent trimming, as the plant naturally develops an attractive shape.
Unlike some older forms of Nandina domestica, 'Magical Sunrise' is grown primarily for its colourful foliage rather than for heavy flowering or berry production. As a result, berries are often sparse or absent, allowing the changing leaf colour to remain the main feature throughout the year.
