Overview

Nepeta 'Walker's Low' is one of the finest perennial catmints, producing generous sprays of soft lavender-blue flowers above aromatic grey-green foliage from late spring well into summer. Its gently arching habit softens the edges of borders, paths and patios, creating a relaxed, natural look that pairs beautifully with roses and other cottage garden favourites.

Despite its name, 'Walker's Low' is not a particularly low-growing variety. Instead, it forms broad, graceful clumps that provide months of colour while requiring very little maintenance once established.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in a sunny position where it will receive plenty of direct sunlight. It performs best in open, well-ventilated sites with free-draining soil.

Watering

Water regularly while establishing. Once established, it is tolerant of short dry spells and generally requires little additional watering except during prolonged periods of drought.

Soil

Thrives in well-drained soil and is well suited to gravel gardens, raised beds and sunny borders. Avoid poorly drained ground, particularly during winter.

Pruning

Shear plants back after the first flush of flowers to encourage fresh foliage and a second display of blooms later in the season. Cut old growth back in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge.
