Overview
An Olive Tree on Stem is a timeless specimen that brings Mediterranean style and year-round structure to gardens, patios and courtyards. Trained into an elegant standard form with a clear stem and rounded canopy, this mature specimen creates an immediate focal point whether planted in the ground or displayed in a large decorative container.
Its narrow, silvery-green evergreen leaves catch the light beautifully, adding texture and contrast throughout the seasons. The naturally gnarled appearance that develops with age gives olive trees their distinctive character, making each specimen increasingly attractive over time. Supplied approximately 180cm tall in a P30 container, this established tree provides instant impact in both contemporary and traditional garden settings.

Growing Guide
Position
Plant in a sunny, sheltered position where the tree receives as much direct sunlight as possible. It performs particularly well against a warm wall or in a sheltered courtyard, making it well suited to many Irish patios and urban gardens.
Watering
Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry spells. Container-grown olive trees should be checked more frequently, allowing excess water to drain away freely rather than leaving the roots in saturated compost.
Soil
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil. Excellent drainage is particularly important in Ireland's wetter winters. If planting in heavy soil, improve drainage before planting or grow in a large container with a free-draining compost.
Pruning
Light pruning in late spring or summer helps maintain the rounded canopy and remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches. Remove any shoots that appear along the stem below the crown to preserve the standard form.
Perfect For
- Statement patio containers
- Courtyard gardens
- Entranceways
- Mediterranean-inspired planting
- Contemporary and formal gardens
Good to Know
Olive trees are naturally slow growing, making them ideal for long-term feature planting. Their evergreen foliage and sculptural form provide year-round interest, while mature specimens develop increasing character with age.
