Overview
Opuntia rubescens is an eye-catching cactus grown for its flattened, paddle-shaped stems that create a bold architectural display. Its sculptural form makes it an excellent choice for bright indoor spaces, where it adds texture and character with minimal care.
Well suited to sunny windowsills, conservatories and other bright locations, this drought-tolerant cactus stores water in its fleshy stems, allowing it to cope well with occasional missed watering. Its compact size when young makes it easy to incorporate into a collection of succulents and cacti.

Growing Guide
Indoor Placement
Position in the brightest spot available, ideally with several hours of direct sunlight each day. A south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Good air circulation will help maintain healthy growth.
Watering
Allow the compost to dry out completely before watering thoroughly. Reduce watering significantly during the cooler months when growth naturally slows.
Soil
Grow in a free-draining cactus and succulent compost, using a pot with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture around the roots.
Feeding
Feed once a month during spring and summer with a cactus fertiliser at the recommended rate. Do not feed during autumn and winter.
