Position

Plant in a sunny, open position where it receives plenty of direct sunlight. Oregano develops the best flavour and the most compact growth when grown in full sun.

Watering

Water regularly while establishing. Once established, oregano is relatively drought tolerant and generally only requires watering during prolonged dry spells. Container-grown plants should be watered when the compost begins to dry.

Soil

Grow in free-draining soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged conditions, particularly during winter. Lighter soils or raised beds are ideal, and adding horticultural grit can improve drainage where needed.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Suitable for year-round outdoor cultivation in most Irish gardens. Growth may die back during winter before fresh shoots emerge in spring. Good drainage is important during cold, wet weather.
