Overview
Philadelphus × lemoinei, often known as Mock Orange, is a compact deciduous shrub grown for its abundance of sweetly scented white flowers in late spring to early summer. The blooms are produced along gracefully arching stems and fill the surrounding area with a rich citrus-like fragrance, making this one of the finest shrubs for planting close to paths, patios or seating areas where its perfume can be fully appreciated.
Smaller and more refined than many older Mock Orange varieties, P. × lemoinei fits comfortably into medium-sized gardens while providing a reliable display each year. Its fresh green foliage creates an attractive backdrop through the growing season before falling in autumn.

Growing Guide
Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. While it tolerates a range of garden soils, it performs best where the soil remains reasonably fertile and does not become waterlogged during winter.
Water regularly while establishing. Once established, it generally requires little supplementary watering except during extended dry spells. Applying a layer of organic mulch in spring helps retain moisture and improve soil structure.
Pruning
Prune immediately after flowering by removing some of the oldest flowering stems back to the base and lightly shortening remaining shoots if required. As flowers are produced on growth made the previous year, pruning after flowering encourages vigorous new stems for next season's display.
Wildlife
The nectar-rich flowers are visited by bees and other pollinating insects during the flowering season, making this a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
