About this product

Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver'

2 Litre Pot

Plant Highlights: Cream-edged evergreen foliage • Brilliant red spring growth • Cascades of white spring flowers • Excellent for woodland gardens and containers

Overview

Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver' is a compact evergreen shrub that offers interest in every season. Its glossy dark green leaves are edged with creamy white throughout the year, while the fresh spring growth emerges in striking shades of bright red before gradually maturing. In early to mid-spring, elegant clusters of white, bell-shaped flowers hang beneath the branches, creating a graceful display against the colourful foliage.

Its naturally neat habit makes it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, mixed shrub borders and patio containers, particularly where year-round foliage colour is desired.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in partial shade or full sun in a sheltered position. In Ireland, partial shade is often ideal, particularly where the plant is protected from cold, drying winds and early morning sun on frosty spring growth.

Watering

Water regularly during the first growing season and during prolonged dry spells, especially if grown in containers. Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged.

Soil

For the best growth and foliage colour, plant in acidic to neutral, humus-rich, well-drained soil. If your garden has alkaline soil, grow it in a container using ericaceous compost.

Pruning

Pruning is rarely needed. Remove any dead or damaged stems after flowering and lightly shape the plant if required, taking care not to remove developing flower buds for the following spring.
