Pieris japonica 'Debutante'
2 Litre Container (20–25cm Supplied Height)
Plant Highlights: Abundant white spring flowers • Glossy evergreen foliage • Compact, rounded habit • Excellent for acid-loving gardens and containers
Pieris japonica 'Debutante' is a compact evergreen shrub renowned for its profusion of pure white, bell-shaped flowers in early to mid-spring. Held in graceful clusters above glossy dark green foliage, the blooms provide welcome colour at the start of the gardening season and contrast beautifully with the rich evergreen leaves.
Its naturally rounded habit makes it an excellent choice for smaller gardens, woodland planting, mixed shrub borders and patio containers. As a member of the ericaceous family, it thrives in acidic soils and provides attractive structure throughout the year.

Grow in partial shade or full sun in a sheltered location. In Ireland, partial shade is often ideal, particularly where the plant is protected from cold winds and strong early morning sun during frosty periods.
Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry spells, especially if growing in containers. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.
Plant in fertile, humus-rich, acidic to neutral soil with good drainage. Where soils are alkaline, grow in a container filled with ericaceous compost.
Pruning is rarely required. Remove faded flower trusses if desired and lightly shape the plant after flowering, avoiding heavy pruning into older wood.
The spring flowers provide an early nectar source for bees and other pollinating insects.
